President Faure congratulates Seychelles Ambassador nominated to the board of the world’s largest climate fund

President Danny Faure has congratulated Seychelles Ambassador Ronny Jumeau on his nomination to represent Small Island Developing States (SIDS) on the board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the world’s largest international climate fund.

The GCF was established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to assist developing countries in adaptation and mitigation practices to counter climate change. Since 2015 the GCF, based in South Korea, has invested more than USD 4.6 billion in 93 projects worldwide. 28 SIDS have benefited from GCF funding to date.

Ambassador Jumeau, who is Seychelles’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, was nominated by the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) to serve from 2019 to 2021.

President Faure said that Ambassador Jumeau’s nomination is great news for Seychelles and a unique opportunity to continue advocating for the cause of SIDS on the international stage, especially the urgent need to keep global temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
