President Faure welcomes France Pointe to his new home

President Danny Faure today witnessed the signing of the Life Tenancy Agreement between Mr France Pointe and the Property Management Corporation, held at Serret Road, St Louis. It was in a ceremony this morning that Mr Pointe accompanied by his sister, Mrs Ranalda Pointe Mwale, who is also his carer, received the key to his new home.

President Faure first met Mr France Pointe during a visit to Victoria Market in July 2017, where he found him homeless and with mental impairment. Since then, the Social Affairs Department intensified their efforts to assist Mr Pointe through the Night Shelter at North East Point until his sister returned to Seychelles to take care of her brother.

Thereon, Mr Pointe and his sister followed the procedures and policies required by the Housing Department to be assisted with a house, including part-rental, until the decision was taken to build a house for Mr Pointe on the property of one of his relatives.

After the signing of the agreement, President Faure and Mr Pointe toured the house which has been built by GNC Contractor and cost a total of 600 thousand rupees. Construction work on the house started in June 2019. With the President, Mr Pointe also got the chance to thank all those involved in the construction of the house.

Speaking to the local press after the ceremony, Mrs Mwale said that they are very happy that finally, they would be able to move into their new home, after waiting for so long.

Also present this morning was the Minister for Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, Mrs Pamela Charlette, Principal Secretary for Social Affairs, Mrs Linda William-Mélanie, representatives from the Property Management Corporation and staff from the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport, and other distinguished guests.
