Cabinet Decisions

Cabinet Business - Wednesday, 8th September 2021

President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 8th September, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved proposals to address issues related to acquisition of land by the Government between 1977 and 1993.  Persons wishing to lodge claims for compensation will have three months to do so once the procedures are announced.

Cabinet approved amendments to the Customs Management (Passenger Allowance) Regulations, 2018 (SI 52 of 2018), to ensure that both passengers and airline crew members are subject to taxes on the exceeded goods rather than on the whole consignment.

Cabinet was briefed on the challenges and weaknesses in the Electricity, Water and Wastewater Sectors in Seychelles.

Cabinet also approved institutional reforms for the Seychelles Energy Commission.  The Commission will be converted into a multi-sector energy regulator in the country with a reduced Board.  The Commission’s responsibilities will be enlarged in the future.

Cabinet approved the Seychelles’ Initial Report on the progress of the implementation of the Optional Protocol on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography; Cabinet gave approval for the submission of the report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
