Cabinet Business - Thursday 15th May 2025

President Wavel Ramkalawan, chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet yesterday Wednesday 14th May, in which a number of legal and policy memoranda were approved.

The Cabinet expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Seychelles for their remarkable support and unity during the Beach Soccer World Cup, praising the exemplary behaviour of the public, the dedication of local volunteers, the commitment of the organising committee, and the efforts of all agencies involved in delivering world-class infrastructure. Special thanks were extended to FIFA for entrusting Seychelles with the event and recognising it as the best edition to date. The national team was congratulated for their inspiring performance, which brought pride, joy, and a strong spirit of solidarity across the nation. Cabinet also recorded its deep appreciation for the exceptional leadership of the President, which was instrumental in the overall success of the event.

Cabinet approved the disposal of the old asphalt plant at Petit Paris, Cascade, through a competitive sale as scrap metal, in order to facilitate the timely commencement of a planned housing project on the site.

Cabinet approved the establishment of the Port Control Unit (PCU) at the Port by June 2025. Cabinet also endorsed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and key national enforcement agencies, including the Seychelles Revenue Commission, Seychelles Port Authority, Seychelles Police Force, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment. The initiative will implement the Container Control Programme to enhance inter-agency cooperation and combat illicit trade through maritime cargo.

Cabinet approved the Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan (SMSP) as required under the Nature Reserves and Conservancy (Seychelles Marine Spatial Plan) Regulations, S.I. 18 of 2025. This marks the final step in fulfilling the country’s commitment to protect 30% of its marine territory and operationalise the plan under law, in line with the 2016 debt conversion agreement for ocean conservation.
