President Ramkalawan meets the executive committee of the Seychelles Car Hire Operators Association

The President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan received members of the Seychelles Car Hire Operators Association (SCHOA), on Tuesday.

The members of the Association present for the meeting included the Chairman, Mr Vincent Padayachy, Treasurer, Mrs Vasenda Auguste, ordinary members, Mr Simon Hoareau and Mr Carl Payet as well as the acting Secretary, Ms Sandra Ally.

The President commended and thanked them for their contribution as an Association. He reaffirmed his commitment and that of his government to address pertinent issues affecting car hire businesses in Seychelles and together explore possible solutions, through a win-win partnership.

Pertinent matters raised by the Association especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic included the decrease in car rentals by tourists and businesses, hence resulting in some of them having to sell some of their cars. During discussions other key challenges such as parking issues and collection of their cars at the airport, the extension on the number of years for licence for car hires, definition of luxury cars, tax for car hires, delivery and amongst others.

All points raised have been duly noted by President Ramkalawan as he affirmed his commitment to undertake further discussions with the respective Ministries and agencies concerned for necessary actions.

In an interview with the local press, Mr Padayachy thanked the President for receiving them at State House at a very short notice. On behalf of the Association e expressed gratitude for finally being given the opportunity to voice out their concerns and hopes for possible solutions as well.
