Cabinet Business - Wednesday, 20th October 2021

President Wavel Ramkalawan chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 20th October, at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved amendments to the Truth, Reconciliation and National Unity Commission Act, 2018 to reduce the number of Commissioners from seven to five. 

Cabinet approved the Communications Bill 2021. The new legislation will allow the country to align with regulatory developments in the electronic telecommunications and broadcasting industries.

Cabinet approved the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency Bill, 2021.  The Agency will ensure standardisation of quality of works and procedures for implementing civil works projects, by centralising the pool of resources to allow for greater cost effectiveness for ministries, departments and agencies.

Cabinet initiated discussions on forthcoming amendments to the Constitution that Government plans to present to the National Assembly in 2022 after undergoing public consultations.  Issues such as a fixed date for presidential elections and institutional reforms were key proposals discussed.

Cabinet approved amendments to schedule 1 of the Public Enterprise Monitoring Commission Act, 2013 that list all the Public Enterprises to align it with Government restructuring.

Cabinet approved the Public Enterprises Bill, 2021.  The aim of the new Bill is to provide a consistent framework for governance, operation, performance monitoring and financial oversight of Public Enterprises.
