Cabinet Business - Wednesday 16th February 2022

Vice President Ahmed Afif chaired a scheduled meeting of the Cabinet today, Wednesday 16th February at which a number of legal and policy memoranda were considered.

Cabinet approved the policy proposal for the regulating of E-money in Seychelles.  The proposed E-money Regulations is aligned with the Central Bank of Seychelles’ initiative to modernise and develop the country’s national payment system and allow for the adoption of innovative technological platforms in line with the National Fintech Strategy and the Government’s digital economy agenda.

The E-money regulatory framework will allow for the expansion of payment services such as e-cards, e-wallets and mobile money, amongst others.

Cabinet also approved for the hosting of a Regional Workshop for “Developing and Implementing a National Security Detection Architecture” in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).  The aim of the workshop is to assist the five member states (Seychelles, Mauritius, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo) in the planning, organising or reviewing of their national security detection architecture for radioactive material out of regulatory control, i.e. abandoned or discarded radioactive materials.

Cabinet was briefed on the results of the external audit of the Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA) completed in January 2022.  Following the successful results of the audit, the SMA has been recommended to be accredited for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 Certification in the provision of aeronautical meteorological services. Cabinet conveyed its congratulations to the leadership and staff of the SMA.

Further details to the media will be provided by the relevant Ministry.
