President Wavel Ramkalawan accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, attend the official inauguration of 16 housing units at Anse Aux Poules Bleues, Baie Lazare, representing a substantial investment in affordable housing infrastructure for the community.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was conducted by President Ramkalawan alongside Minister for Land and Housing, Mr. Billy Rangasamy, and Mr. François Adelaide, Member of the National Assembly for the Baie Lazare District, marking the completion of the ambitious housing project that commenced on November 13, 2023. During the ceremony, the new residents received the keys to their homes, officially marking the beginning of their homeownership journey.
The development comprises eight three-bedroom and eight two-bedroom units designed to accommodate 16 families. Beyond residential accommodation, the project features comprehensive community infrastructure including retaining walls, adequate parking facilities with solar-powered lighting, a dedicated children's playground, service ramps for accessibility, and professional landscaping with boundary walls.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Rangasamy reaffirmed the government's commitment to sustainable housing projects that enable Seychellois families to flourish and live with dignity. "Infrastructure in our country is fundamental, it serves as the foundation to uplift our economy and improve the wellbeing of our people," he noted. The Minister provided detailed explanations of the rigorous processes projects undergo before allocation and urged new residents to remember the sacrifice and dedication invested in the development as motivation to maintain positive community standards.
In his address, President Ramkalawan expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in realizing the project. He highlighted that the Baie Lazare District has exemplified remarkable development over the past five years through housing projects, road improvements, and coastal protection initiatives. The President commended the new homeowners as exemplary citizens who demonstrated consistency in their contributions to the home savings scheme, encouraging them to foster positive environments for their children while deterring anti-social activities.
The ceremony was enriched by a blessing from the parish priest and presentations featuring songs and drama performances by Baie Lazare Primary School students.
Distinguished attendees included Vice-President Ahmed Afif, Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs Mrs. Rose-Marie Hoareau, Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Mrs. Marie-Celine Zialor, Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment , Mr Falvien Joubert, Chief Executive Officers, Directors, Baie Lazare District Administrator Ms. Fatima Marie, staff from the Ministry of Land Use and Housing and the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency, residents, and invited guests.
