The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by the Minister for Land and Housing, Mr Billy Rangasamy, presided over the official laying of the foundation stone and unveiling of the plaque for the construction of 12 new affordable housing units on La Digue.

The ceremony, held at La Digue in the presence of other government officials, community representatives, students, and residents, marked another milestone in the Government’s continued efforts to address the housing needs of Seychellois families.

The programme featured a warm welcome by La Digue students through poetry and traditional dance, followed by remarks from Minister Rangasamy, who reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the people of La Digue benefit from modern and affordable housing solutions.

In his address, President Ramkalawan emphasised the Government’s unwavering determination to deliver on its housing priorities across the islands:

“Today’s event is another important step towards fulfilling our promise to improve the living conditions of our people. Every new housing project reflects our commitment to provide dignity, security, and a better quality of life for Seychellois families, including those here on La Digue. We will continue to work with dedication to meet the expectations of our citizens.”

The foundation stone was laid jointly by President Ramkalawan and Minister Rangasamy, in the presence of the Principal Secretary for Housing and other district representatives.

The ceremony was followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and concluded with a vote of thanks, a group photograph, and refreshments, marking the launch of a project that will soon provide homes for 12 deserving families on La Digue.
