President Wavel Ramkalawan welcomed a distinguished delegation from the African Union and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (AU/COMESA) for a courtesy call at State House, Thursday morning. The delegation represents a joint observer mission, led by His Excellency, Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili, Former Prime Minister of Lesotho, currently in the Republic of Seychelles to serve as international observers for the ongoing Presidential and Parliamentary elections being held from the 25 to 27th September 2025.
President Ramkalawan expressed his appreciation for the AU/COMESA's continued support in strengthening democratic institutions across the region, emphasizing the vital role that international observation plays in enhancing public confidence in electoral integrity. He gave his reassurance that the electoral proceeding will be conducted in utmost transparency and peaceful atmosphere.
The Head of State further reaffirmed the commitment of Government to ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process in Seychelles. He welcomed their presence as an important signal of regional solidarity and support for democratic values.
“The Government of Seychelles remains committed to upholding the highest standards of democracy, peace and stability. The contribution of observer missions such as yours strengthens the credibility of our electoral process and reassures our citizens and partners alike,” said President Ramkalawan.
His Excellency Dr. Mosisili, serving as head of the observer mission, commended Seychelles for its dedication to upholding democratic principles and maintaining peaceful electoral conduct. He commended Seychelles for the spirit of openness and dialogue demonstrated, noting in particular the constructive engagement of the Seychellois authorities with whom the delegation has met. He noted that his team looks forward to engaging with a broad range of stakeholders during their observation process.
The AU/COMESA joint observer mission will continue to monitor the electoral proceedings, hold discussions with various entities and stakeholders, collecting valuable insights set to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of democratic practices.
