President Ramkalawan Appoints the Leader of the Opposition to Platinum COVID-19 Committee

Following a meeting convened by the President of the Republic, Mr Wavel Ramkalawan with the three leaders of the National Assembly at State House earlier today, the President has taken the decision to appoint the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay to formally become a member of the Platinum COVID-19 Committee.
The President’s decisions stems from the strong belief that the COVID-19 Pandemic is a National Health Crisis and should be treated as a non-political matter and as such, Hon. Pillay in his capacity as the Leader of the Opposition should be represented at the highest level of decision-making.
The President has expressed appreciation that Hon. Pillay has welcomed and accepted his invitation to collectively work together with the committee and henceforth join forces to make greater contributions for the benefit of the people and the country.
Present for the meeting at State House, was also the Vice-President, Mr. Ahmed Afif, the Designated Minister and Minister for Fisheries and the Blue Economy, Mr Jean-Francois Ferrari, the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Roger Mancienne, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Sebastien Pillay and the Leader of Government Business in the National Assembly, Hon. Bernard Georges, where they were personally briefed by the Head of State on the new COVID-19 developments in the country.
