President Wavel Ramkalawan, accompanied by First Lady Linda Ramkalawan, attended a reception on Tuesday evening marking the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The event was hosted at the newly inaugurated residence of the Chinese Ambassador, Panda House, Sans Souci.
In her welcoming address the Chinese Ambassador H.E. Lin Nan highlighted China's accomplishments and outlined the nation's vision to "build a community with a shared future for humanity." Ambassador Lin Nan commended the robust bilateral relationship between Seychelles and China, and called for continued joint efforts to explore new avenues of collaboration that would translate into tangible benefits for the people of both nations
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde conveyed warm congratulations on behalf of President Ramkalawan, the government, and the people of Seychelles to Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. He emphasized the valuable contributions of the Chinese community in Seychelles and highlighted significant bilateral achievements, including the recent handover of the new SBC House and patrol vessel Andromache, and social housing project as visible symbols of growing cooperation.
Minister Radegonde praised China's support through scholarships and training opportunities that have empowered Seychellois youth, and acknowledged important milestones such as the 40th anniversary of the Chinese medical team's presence in Seychelles. He also noted new developments including direct flights between Mahé and Chengdu and the Victoria-Chengdu sister city agreement as strategic advances in trade, tourism, and investment. Minister Radegonde concluded by reaffirming Seychelles' commitment to working with China on global platforms to advance sustainable development and prosperity for both peoples.
The evening concluded with a thematic photo exhibition commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, followed by a series of cultural performances showcasing traditional Chinese art and heritage.
The celebration was attended by Vice-President Ahmed Afif and Mrs. Stella Afif, Cabinet Ministers, members of the diplomatic corps, and other distinguished guests, reflecting the significance of this milestone anniversary and the importance of Seychelles-China relations.
